CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.D.8 Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.

CCSS.Math.Content.4.MD.A.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.

Students love music!  Students don't always love math.  Perhaps you will be able to spark some interest in learning about math perimeter by using this fun video in your classroom:

Here is one with movement!

Or this one!

Your students are very creative! Put the students into groups and have them create a rap for area and/or perimeter.  They will love it, and you will love the increase in student achievement!

Students love movement. Ask any student...they will tell you they like to move around, collaborate, and participate in hands-on activities. I bet you prefer your professional development days to be the same way! It's no wonder because brain research tells us that movement increases achievement! Here are some perimeter task cards (more fun than worksheets!) to help you teach math while creating movement!
